The Walker Street Fiddlers is a group of young musicians that includes students from third grade through high school. Our group represents diverse students whose common thread is love of music, particularly traditional Irish and American fiddle music. Currently, The Walker Street Fiddlers is comprised of over 30 students from at least a dozen different schools in Guilford, Alamance and Wake Counties.

Scott Walker, a respected music teacher in the greater Greensboro community, founded the group in 1999. His career has been dedicated to teaching young musicians in a variety of public and private schools, and as a private instructor of Suzuki music technique on cello and violin. Scott’s love of traditional Irish fiddle tunes grew after he was introduced to the music by former student, Fred Lail. Realizing the potential to reenergize students’ desire to play, he began to introduce Irish tunes as an alternative to Suzuki and classical repertory. The results were quite positive and soon, there were so many students asking for tunes, that Scott organized The Walker Street Fiddlers to provide these students with an opportunity to meet and play together.

The Walker Street Fiddlers have become increasing popular over the past several years in the Triad region, gaining recognition by performing throughout the year. In addition to regular monthly “gigs”, we have played in support of a number of non profit benefits, civic organizations, school and community events, festivals, and church functions. Our group enjoyed a memorable performance tour in Ireland in the summer of 2007.

    Hi,
I seem to have lost one of your books that I bought and I need to order another copy. It was the one that had Star of County Down included. Can you tell me which one to order? I can’t remember the title of the collection. I love your books and so do my violin students. Thanks!
    Jennifer

I am possibly interested in buying your sheet music for violin. Is it possible to see a page so I know what it looks like (what level, etc.) Also, it would be great to hear a sample. Let me know if this is possible. Thank you.

    Hi,
What a wonderful web page! It’s good to hear of the many performance opportunities you have had.
Herbal Thyme Herb group would love to have you perform again at this year’s festival, but sorry this is little notice. We will be providing the festival this year on two days, Sat. morning, April 20 and Sun. afternoon, April 21. Is there a time on one of the days that you would honor us again with your playful concert? The 10:00 or 11:00 Sat. was always such a good time.
    Thanks,
    Gail Fleagle
